From Pixel to Purpose | Devlog #1

Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹

This is the very first official devlog for Project Anthros, my cozy-but-creepy bunker survival game with mysterious sci-fi lore, pixel art vibes, and emotional storytelling buried beneath the snow and steel. โ„๏ธโš™๏ธ๐Ÿงโ€โ™‚๏ธ

โœ… What Iโ€™ve Done So Far:

๐ŸŽฎ Player Movement

  • Character moves in 4 directions with smooth, normalized input

  • Movement speed is consistent across all directions

๐ŸŽจ Directional Animation System

  • Player has 8 animations: walk + idle for up, down, left, right

  • When you stop moving, the character stays facing the last direction

  • Itโ€™s not just functional — it feels good

๐Ÿ—๏ธ What Iโ€™m Working On This Week:

๐Ÿงฑ Bunker Tiles

  • Creating tiles for dirt floors, rusty walls, bunker doors, and cold machinery

  • Pixel art style is 32x32 for now

  • Focused on getting just a few done to avoid burnout

๐Ÿ”ฅ Generator/Heating Concept

  • Replacing the โ€œcampfireโ€ from the old design with a central generator

  • The generator powers and heats your base

  • If you expand too fast without upgrading, it can shut down or break (danger! ๐Ÿ˜ฐ)

๐Ÿงโ€โ™‚๏ธ Polishing Player Scene

  • Cleaning up the node structure

  • Possibly adding a small camera system to follow the player

  • Prepping for interaction systems (like picking up items)

๐ŸŽฏ Goals for the End of This Week:

  • A small but complete tileset for the bunker

  • A first-pass generator sprite

  • Clean up any animation bugs or movement hiccups

๐ŸŒŒ Looking Ahead...

The demo is meant to be a short 2-hour survival experience, light resource management, and atmospheric storytelling. It's a demo to the larger project, and I want this demo to capture the playerโ€™s attention with mystery, tension, and heart.
