The Wall, The Wins, and Why I’m Still Going | Devlog #3

Hey everyone!

This devlog is a little different. Less “look at what I finished,” and more “here’s where I’m at — for real.”

😰 Hitting the Wall

You know that part in every project where the beginner tutorials aren’t enough, and you’re supposed to “just know how to build things”?

Yeah. I’m there.

I’ve been trying to learn Godot without relying on tutorials. I want this game — Project Anthros — to be something I made. Not something I copied. And that’s a double-edged sword, because while it’s been super empowering… it’s also been really hard.

Signals? I kind of get them, but connecting them still confuses me.
Inventory systems? I’ve started one, but haven’t gotten it working yet.
My GameManager is… there. Watching. Judging. Unhelpful.

There’s this voice in my head saying:

“You’re not good enough to finish this. Just start over again like always.”

But here’s the thing: I’m not listening this time.

💡 Realizations

I’ve realized something really important:

I’ve never truly coded before. I’ve just followed instructions.

Now I’m actually learning. Slowly. Frustratingly. But for real this time.

And you know what? Even if I didn’t get the inventory system working yet, or my signals are a hot mess… I wrote code. I made things happen. I made mistakes that were mine, not some tutorial's.

And that feels kinda huge.

🔧 What I Did Get Done

✅ Character movement
✅ An interact system with feedback
✅ A prototype of the game that actually runs
✅ A working build exported and uploaded
✅ Project organization + file structure that future me will love
✅ A devlog streak that’s keeping me accountable
✅ Emotional damage. (lol)

💬 Final Thoughts

If you’re reading this and struggling to make your first real game, let me be honest: It’s hard. It feels overwhelming. And you’ll doubt yourself.

But if you love the idea enough to push through that wall…
It does get better. It does get clearer.

I’m not on the other side of it yet, but I’m not giving up.
And that alone? That’s progress.

See you in the next one.
